'Big Octopus' - 1937 Spontoon Island MayDay parade

A puppet float at one of the 1937 May Day parades on Spontoon Island. This may be near the tourist hotels on South Island. March and April are spent doing maintenance & repairs on the hospitality infrastructure, including rooming houses for the Summer workers for the resorts and hotels. Workers are from the Spontoon Atoll and from the surrounding archipelago's islands. Training takes some of the 2 months, as does cleaning and moving in furnishings & supplies from the warehouses. Preparations are done by May Day, and that work is celebrated at the holiday. The festivities are also a get-acquainted party for the incoming Summer workers. The tourist cruise boats start arriving within a week.
