Description
Beachwear circa 1933 on Spontoon Island. (American fashions on a North Pacific island)
On the left is a cotton sunsuit, for lounging. This could be used for swimming, but it is light cotton fabric. If it gets wet, she may be glad for the dark color print.
Swim suits were of wool-knit, the only stretch fabric. Women's suits by the 1930s had 'modesty panels' front and back (to hide curves when the suit got wet). No built-in bras yet. Men's suits had 'speed' tops to cover up semi-naughty bits. (By 1935, men could wear trunks with optional sleeveless shirt.)
